I came across this band album on Alt Nation and am really digging the EP. Good thing they’re offering it for FREE! Download it below, and feel free to share! Check out this song before you download it and get an idea of their sound. The song reminds me of some old Garbage/Cardigans with a male lead vocal.

Tonight at Granada Theater is Purity Ring! I am interested to see this band perform since my friend told me about them awhile back. We picked up tickets as soon as they went on sale and I am glad that we did because it’s SOLD OUT. I am curious about their live show because of the cocoons they incorporate into the live show. They’re percussion based but whenever the guy hits them they give off a sound and light. Catch a free download of Belispeak II featuring Detroit rapper Danny Brown.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our first house show in our new place in Deep Ellum. The night turned out awesome, and there will be plenty more. The next house show will be with Toby and Matt on February 2nd. Feel free to grab tickets to that one here. My brother in law Jonathan recorded the audio from the show and the recordings turned out really good! As promised I wanted to have something special to take away from the show and figured this would be a good souvenir. Below are the sets from each of the different artists. Feel free to download (*right click, save as), and share these with your friends. I think that night started something bigger that I am still working towards. So keep your eyes out for something new regarding the future of living room shows and the likes. Hopefully will have some new news soon. Thanks again to everyone that came and we will see you soon! If you have any pictures from the show feel free to send them to me adrianhummel@gmail.com

Joseph Veazie had some incredible covers from Underoath to Incubus, and Frank Ocean. I have always thought Joseph was really talented and was honored to have him play here on this set.

Abandon Kansas featured a new song that had everyone there asking about it as soon as the song was over. Jeremy did more Q&A than music because he was still recovering from being sick, despite that they still did a great job and had some good sing alongs.

From what I have read this was a song that didn’t make the first album and is now being re released for an upcoming HBO show. You always hear about a band writing and recordings tons of songs and then only choosing a handful. I wonder how many more of these exist, and I am curious about what the next effort from FUN. will sound like. Time will tell.

Who says you need a new year to start a new year?

It seems that now that the New Year is on us everyone is fixated with changing something about their life (myself included). 2012 can be concluded as a year of massive change for me. In January I was let go from a job I held with a small non profit for 7 years. It was really unexpected and a shock, but after some perspective and distance it was for the best. Then I started another job that flaked out. I think the people were more interested in who I knew and it was a situation that lacked communication and as a result I ended up leaving because of a lack of direction from the company. It was a smaller one, and they seemed to be growing but something didn’t seem right, so I left shortly after I started. Then I got a call from a good friend who has a company and I started working with them and still do. It’s a great company and I love what I do. We are on the cutting edge of social media and work with some really great people. I am looking forward to what 2013 has in store there.

The other big change was at the end of the year due to “corporate cutbacks and mu job being eliminated” their words not mine, I was let go from another radio station I had been with for four years, and even thought it was only part time it made me close the chapter on that aspect of my life. I spent the last 8 or 9 years perusing radio and now at the end of the year I am no longer in the industry, but you know what that’s fine. I don’t have any plans on going back. The low pay, weird hours, lack of opportunity isn’t worth it. Plus with a little $$ you can create something similar online. It was something I dreamed of doing for a long time and had a good run, but in the end it became apparent “that dream” was conflicting with other ones. So when I look back a year from now, or two years from now I don’t think I’ll regret this decision at all. The decision to not pursue radio in any other form.

Anyways, aside from that this past year was pretty amazing. The wife and I got more plugged into our Church, started serving more there, transitioned into our Community Group, and in early 2013 will soon be leading a small group for engaged couples. I am pretty excited about that not because I think I have marriage figured out but because it’s an opportunity to meet more people and invest in peoples lives, which is always rad.

I’m looking forward to 2013 in more ways than one. Looking forward to hanging more with friends, throwing more house shows, getting more into the music scene despite NOT being affiliated with a radio station. Looking forward to getting even more plugged in at Watermark.

Looking forward to starting up some sort of audio/video/online publication. I have been floating the idea around for a few months but maybe this next year is when I will start that. We will see about that.. TBD.

I came across this on a radio station’s blog in Seattle. They are always really good about discovering new music. As a matter of fact they were one of the first to start playing The Lumineers. So what can the Internet tell us about this new guy..

His EP got a 6.8 from Pitchfork.

Consequence of Sound wrote

On his latest offering “Union,” UK electronic R&B musician Daniel Woolhouse, aka Deptford Goth, strings together flickers of bleeps and billows of melancholia to form a haunting, chilled-to-the-bone ambiance. His weightless voice, which seems to dissolve into thin air only seconds after uttering words, adds yet another level of ghostly fragility.

Think this new song will be jam in 2013, or will he slip into oblivion and no one will hear the name Deptford Goth again?

I am a huge fan of productions like this, and would love to collaborate with someone on doing something like this. Are you interested? I have the space downtown I just need someone who has some video skills and a little extra time on the weekends to help set it up. We could book bands, invite a small audience, and then produce some really great video. Any takers?
