Check out The Roots “undun” over at NPR’s website.
Lately I have been listening to a ton of old school hip hop on Back Scratch. If you have Sirius XM it’s channel 46 and they play some good stuff from time to time. One thing I always like about The Roots is that got that old school hip hop vibe to em. I haven’t listened to all of the new record yet, but from what I have heard I like.

Five Iron Frenzy is BACK!

Yesterday they made this announcement:

We can’t believe it has actually been 8 years ago today that we rocked out with you at the Fillmore in Denver, on a snowy evening as we celebrated our last show. Now, all these years (and marriages and kids) later we feel the desire to write new material and make a record!

The band made their goal within the first hour, and currently as of right now they have raised over 80k. If you would like to contribute to their KickStarter account visit their KickStarter Page.

They also released a new song which can be heard above and downloaded here. Expect the new album in 2013!

The Devil Wears Prada is an American metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio. They formed in 2005, and are currently signed to Warner Music Group/Ferret Music/Roadrunner Records. The Devil Wears Prada consists Mike Hranica (vocals), Chris Rubey (lead guitar), Jeremy DePoyster (rhythm guitar, vocals), Andy Trick (bass), Daniel Williams (drums) and James Baney (keyboards). To date, the group has released three full-length albums, one DVD, one EP, and five music videos.

I had a chance to catch up with Mike Hranica before Warped Tour to talk about the new Devil Wears Prada record, their custom Vans shoes and the over-abundance of Yoo-Hoo drinks.

Adrian Hummel: How is Dallas treating you so far?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: Great, it’s pretty hot but thats anticipated for it being Dallas.

Adrian Hummel: You guys took last year off from Warped Tour, tell me about the decision to go back this year.

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: We did it two years in a row 08′ and 09′ and then last year we did a headline tour through the summer. Umm obviously we are not trying to play Warped Tour every single year, the opportunity was right this year in 2011. Again everything met up nicely and were stoked to be doing this tour because we have not done a US tour in a while. It’s a good chance to do one last tour before we put out the new record and then do a tour to support that.

Adrian Hummel:You guys have your own shoes now?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: Yea, they came out a couple weeks ago. We have been planning on them for a long time. As expected it takes awhile to have a shoe from the drafting board to be finalized. It is now out and I think its sold out at Vans already, but we are very excited about it. Really, honestly it is one of the coolest thing we have done with the band and it’s definitely something that is one of the most exciting things for me personally to have a Vans shoe, because I have been wearing Vans for years and years. I remember buying the Rise Against Vans and obviously the bands who have Vans shoes are really reputable names so we couldn’t be more excited to apart of it.

Adrian Hummel: I was looking when doing research and you have your own fan page dedicated to your lost tooth. Is it surreal with how much attention you guys have gotten in such a short time?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: A little bit, we all still try and maintain a certain level of modesty. Even doing Warped main stage for the second year, the Vans shoe, the 4th full length about to come out, and the EP last year it still feels the same really. It’s still the same intentions as far as playing shows and spreading the message, and making music we can back. Really, thats the most important thing, it’s entirely not about fame, or being cool, or trying to make names for ourselves, or try and create our own honor and glory but really just try and keep the music to the message we are trying to spread and the heavy music we trying to make. Really, thats just how it goes for us.

Adrian Hummel: Tell me more about the new music because I have read so much about it. How many songs are on the new album? Are the songs going to have goofy names? You guys have a new song out called Born To Lose. What else can you tell me about the new music?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: I know some people might not be too happy with no more stupid song titles, but we had serious ones with the Zombie EP. I actually wanted to do serious song titles With Roots Above, but the rest of the band was kinda like it has become our schtick to have the stupid song titles. With the new full-length it is going to have all serious song titles. There are 13 tracks and a lot of information about the new record is still in the dark, but we are slowly unraveling it. We are releasing it in September God willing, so we are slowly putting out more and more information and not trying to give out too much info all at once. Its tough man, we put out Born To Lose a week ago, I think it was a week ago I can’t remember and its tough man. We have heard some people say it’s not as heavy as the Zombie EP and it’s really hard. The way I justify it, is each song on the new record has a lot of identity wether it’s lyrically, or its melodic, or if its instrumental, they all have a certain things about them. It’s really hard to put out a song that has a feel for the whole thing (record). Born To Lose comes close but at the same time it really doesn’t have the heaviest stuff and it really doesn’t have the most progressive stuff as far as coming from us. We are really excited to put more stuff out and I could talk about it all day as far as lyrically, and musically, and really everything that went into this record. But, I can say that we couldn’t be more excited about it and it feels really good, and it’s a really good record for our band, and I think it makes a really great statement about the current state of the realm of the “metal-core” world. I really couldn’t be more excited about it and I am really stoked for people to hear it.

Adrian Hummel: September 13th is the official release date?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: Yes, sir.

Adrian Hummel: I read that you were going to drop the official album title before Warped Tour starts, Warped Tour starts tomorrow do you want to drop it now?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: Ahhh, I’m not dropping it now but our manager is with us so we might announce it tomorrow morning or sometime within the week. Hang tight and we will have it posted everywhere once we decide to give it up.

Adrian Hummel: Awesome, well until then it is your big secret.

*Edit* The album title was released this morning and “Dead Throne” will be out in stores September 13th
