Anchor and Braille is the side project from Stephen Christian of Anberlin, and according to the picture below from their twitter they might of just signed a deal with Tooth & Nail Records.
Exciting news? I bet a lot of people haven’t yet heard of Anchor and Braille and to be honest I have heard some stuff from them but not until recently. The music is different, melodic, and ambient at best. I would say they are super sleepy, good chill music.
I will be interested to see what the new stuff sounds like. I really like Anberlin but not so much A&B. I think it is because my expectations for Anberlin and A&B are different. I suppose I’ll have to listen to the new stuff with an open mind, and wait of official news of A&B signing to T&N.
Mxpx is getting ready to put out their 9th studio album and this time it will have all 3 original members.Mike, tom, and Yuri have been making music together for 20 years and have teamed up once again for a record that should be out later this year.
Fans can check out an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of the recording process at www.mxpx.com now.
The yet to be named album is the formal follow-up to 2007′s Secret Weapon (Tooth & Nail Records), and it’s something of a triumphant return to form for the band. Self-produced by Herrera at his Monkey Trench Studios in Bremerton, WA, the new material channels the fire and fervor of their classic album Life In General as well as Weapon’s scope and sense of refinement for a combustible new combination. Despite retiring from the band in 2010, Ruley returned to the fold, and he’s finished tracking drums already. The band remains in the midst of wrapping up guitars, bass, and vocals now.
After writing over 20 songs for the offering, MxPx are in the process of whittling down the selection to 12-14. Herrera is self-producing the album and said, “I’ve put an immense amount of thought into the bass lines this time around.” “I’ve expanded the fills and changed them up here and there, which has been fun.” They demoed a few songs during the Left Coast Punk EP recording sessions, and the time between albums has allowed them to evolve and change. Adhering to their own schedule, each and every detail is being perfected for the best MxPx album yet.
Since the release of Secret Weapon, MxPx dropped a covers album On The Covers II (Tooth & Nail Records) in 2009 and Left Coast Punk EP in 2009 and a holiday album entitled Punk Rock Christmas both through their label, Rock City Recording Company. However, everything simply served as a prelude to the new album.
Tooth and Nail is giving out free music from their labels. It’s pretty easy to connect with all you have to do is go to freetoothandnail.com and connect with Facebook and then you should be able to get prompted with a download. Try it out and let me know if it has worked for you. The last couple times I have visited the website it has done nothing.
The sampler has song good bands on it. The Almost, Ivoryline, Thousand Foot Krutch have all put out strong releases.
Josh was pretty soft spoken when we chatted about the new Emery record on Tuesday. Not what you would expect from a dude that consistently screams for a living, or maybe that is what you would expect. For those that are not familiar here is a little excerpt I cut and pasted about the band from good ole’ wikipedia.
“Emery is an American four-piece post-hardcore band from Rock Hill, South Carolina currently signed to both Tooth & Nail Records and Solid State Records and based in Seattle, Washington. Emery was founded in Rock Hill, South Carolina with the original lineup consisting of Toby Morrell, Devin Shelton, Matt Carter, Josh Head, Joel Green and Seth Studley. Emery moved to Seattle in order to reach a more music centered scene. While the band avoid the stigma of being labeled a “Christian band,” the members are all Christian, exploring a wide variety of lyrical themes in their music.”
The track above is from the new record which I have enjoyed listening to full blast at 3am. My neighbors on the otherhand would disagree.
Today, I AM EMPIRE put out a new record and for the first release off of Tooth and Nail this is pretty solid. Once again T&N has been pretty busy signing up acts and putting out albums. They have somehow created a scene and cater to a small niche market, which in-evidently makes it harder for bands on different labels to exist. Outside of T&N there are not many other labels that cater to this small demographic of underground rock n’ roll music. That is one thing I have always admired about Tooth and Nail. Because honestly without them supplying the small masses with music there would not be a scene. There would not be this industry, there more then like wouldn’t be the station I work for and there more then likely wouldn’t be a station. So, congrats T&N for all you have done. Now onto talk about the record.
I first heard of I AM EMPIRE from an old colleague who read about them in an issue of AP Magazine. They were being featured as “one band to watch” and were currently promoting their new single “Your A Fake” which was being spun on our Indie Show on Power FM.
Anyways, I liked the song, dug the sound they had and that was that. Later on I remember being on the air here at Power FM and reading something that Tooth and Nail signed up this band, and since then I have eagerly anticipated the release. Yesterday I go into my office and realized that the label sent us the record so I popped it open and gave it a listen.
The first song off the new record Kings is the current single which gives a very good indication of their sound, style and song writing ability. Lyrically, the song uses the analogy of Brain Damage to try and relate..honestly I have no idea.. haha which to be completely honest my interpretation of the song could mean something totally different then yours. Maybe the idea of Brain Damage is what sin can do to us? Like I said your guess is as good as mine. The album KINGS has about 5 solid tracks which makes it worthy of buying. I listened to the first half and didn’t have the temptation to change the track. However at about 3/4 of the way into KINGS I did want to push the “next track” button because it was a slower song. For me personally, I am a fan of the more upbeat and up tempo tracks. The album Kings does contain two previously released songs that I know of, those songs being Elevator, and You’re a Fake. That was kinda a let down especially if you have been following the band for awhile. If not, then you don’t really care and are content with this because its all totally new original music. However in my opinion for your label debut I would of thought you would of put totally new original music on there. Overall my favorite track is Foxhole and I have listened to it on repeat since 7:30 this morningggggg… ok not really, but it is good.
